The Take Flight collection was a die-cast special series based on the larger Cars Take Flight brand, a marketing push for the Cars Toons shorts Moon Mater and Air Mater intended to transition between Cars 2 and the upcoming Planes spin-off film.
History[]
Released around early June 2012, the Take Flight Collection primarily took the form of individual blister releases, identical in size and packaging to the traditional mainline "Deluxe" branch. The line was split into two different segment series, Moon Mater and Air Mater, each based on their respective shorts.
Operation Tow Mater is a go! Autonaut Mater lands on the moon for a special rescue mission and returns to Earth with Lightning McQueen at 17,000 mph. Is it a true story or a tall tale? | |
Mater Hawk performs at an air show with the Falcon Hawks stunt team. When he has trouble during a daredevil maneuver, it's Lightning McQueen Hawk to the rescue! Is it a true story or a tall tale? |
In promotion of the collection, a stop-motion YouTube video using die-casts was created and uploaded to YouTube.[1]
